Mill Hill Primary School celebrate Harvest Festival with The Food Education Company

Mill Hill Primary School in Sunderland invited The Food Education Company in to work with their year threes to learn about Harvest Festival and how it can teach important lessons about healthy eating.

The children got involved with cooking and trying a Vegetable Cottage Pie, Spiced Rice Pudding, Potato Salad and Vegetable Soup.  Many of the children got to try new ingredients and combinations that they'd never tried before.

Year three teacher Mrs Curtis said: "I'm really keen for our pupils to try new foods and more fruits and vegetables. We usually mark Harvest Festival in our school, but it was great to take this a step further with our year three children and use as a way of learning about healthy eating.

"I'm keen to link what we teach in the classroom with what happens in the school dinner hall.  If we take time to teach children about healthy eating, they will make better food choices."

"We really value the work that The Food education Company do in our school and it has a real positive impact on our curriculum and our children!"
