Highfield pupils learn about environmental issues with The Food Education Company

Highfield Community Primary School in Gateshead recently enjoyed an event with The Food education Company to learn all about environmental issues and healthy eating.

Pupils at the school watched The Food Education Companies Sarah cook a range of delicious healthy dishes which demonstrated the ways in which waste can be minimized and leftovers can be used up.  The children got involved with the preparation, cooking (and most importantly!) the tasting of the food.

Lynne Goulding, Year 5 teacher said: "It has been a fantastic day to show young people that left over food can be really tasty.  The children have been talking about using the recipes at home and they are learning about sustainability as a class topic.  As a school, we are aiming for the Eco Schools award and we are confident that this activity will support our application."

"His (The Food Education Company chef John) rapport with children and staff was outstanding allowing the important messages he was trying to get across, to be delivered with ease and in a fun context. To say that all children, and staff, enjoyed today is an understatement. He has achieved today what many teachers would find difficult, even after many years of experience. He is a credit to your organisation."
